What It Is
Dormin capsules contain diphenhydramine hydrochloride, an over‑the‑counter antihistamine with sedative effects used primarily to help people fall asleep. It works by blocking histamine receptors in the brain, producing drowsiness and reducing difficulty initiating sleep.
Uses and Effects
This medication is used for short‑term management of insomnia and occasional sleeplessness. It may also be found in some formulations for allergy relief, but when taken at bedtime it is intended to help with sleep onset. Typical adult dosing is 50 mg at bedtime or as directed by a doctor. Effects usually begin within 30 minutes.
Risks and Safety
Side effects can include drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, and impaired coordination. It should not be used by children under 12 and should be avoided with alcohol or other sedatives. Prolonged use for more than 2 weeks to treat sleep problems is not recommended without medical advice.
